ABAQUS is used primarily for finite element analysis and computer-aided engineering
Important: Please always run Abaqus with the 'interactive' flag for batch jobs (i.e. if you are writing a PBS script). You don't need this flag for interactive sessions. If you start Abaqus in a batch script without this flag, the scheduler kills the processes after it spawns more processes and quits (which is the default behaviour).
Make sure you are able to launch X-windows if you'd like to use the GUI. To start the GUI run:
[user@force ~] abaqus cae
To see all options for ABAQUS run:
[user@force ~] abaqus -help
If you get an error message like this one when running ABAQUS...
*ERROR: THE VALUE OF 256 MB THAT HAS BEEN SPECIFIED FOR STANDARD_MEMORY IS TOO SMALL TO RUN THE ANALYSIS AND MUST BE INCREASED. THE MINIMUM POSSIBLE VALUE FOR STANDARD_MEMORY IS 445 MB.
then create a config file in your home directory like this one:
[user@force ~]$ cat abaqus_v6.env # The abaqus_v6.env file in the home directory can also be used to # "fix" a memory problem that sometimes arises when large jobs are # run. If the .msg file of an Abaqus run shows errors because of # not enough "Standard Memory", you can reset this by including the # line standard_memory="512 mb" (including the quotes) to reset # it to 512 MB. The default is 256 MB. standard_memory="768 mb"
