Python is used successfully in thousands of real-world business applications around the world. The last several years have seen a significant expansion of open data science related applications along with significant improvements in package management.
Python is available through an academically licensed Anaconda distribution containing mkl-optimizations, numbapro, and iopro that are available for use for greater than four nodes (if less than 4 nodes, licenses are available for all GT students via https://docs.continuum.io/anaconda-cloud/).
Anaconda is a product from the makers of numpy and scipy - the definitive matrix and scientific computing Python packages. It is a free package manager, environment manager, Python distribution, and collection of over 720 open source packages offering free community support.
Due to the convenience of Anaconda, we no longer manage the python packages. Instead, we provide a python environment that can be cloned to your personal data directory, and allows full control over all packages via 'conda install' or 'pip install'. Conda is highly recommended as it takes care of all package dependencies for you.
