EVPR-PACESHIP Application

The “EVPR – PACE Student HPC Innovation Program” (EVPR-PACESHIP) is an opportunity to provide students without faculty advisors with compute and storage credits on PACE resources. The size allocation will be determined by the project needs and approved by review committee. EVPR-PACESHIP will require a student, or a group of students (team), to apply for an amount of compute and storage credits, providing a definition of their project and computational resources.

Award recipients will provide a brief written report and may be asked to share their experience with the PACE.

Eligibility

  • Any student seeking education specific to research and data processing may apply, regardless of title.
  • The student must be enrolled for classes at least for a full semester at the time of application.
  • An applicant can be considered individual student or team composed of up to 3-4 Georgia Tech students, which can be undergraduate or graduate students.
  • The student or team must have expressed interest in data sciences or other research field that would benefit from computing infrastructure PACE provides.
  • Project teams should designate a member to act as a lead on behalf of the team for the proposed research project.
  • The proposed projects should be completed by the end of 2022-2023 academic year and presented at an event organized by PACE.

  • Estimated amount of compute and storage credits, i.e. computational resources needed for the project.
  • Research, Design Approaches, Methods, and techniques to be employed, software to be used or developed.
  • In case of team projects, a list of team members and proposed roles, contact for the team leader, and if applicable including the faculty sponsor/mentor.

Award winners will be recognized and provided with instructions on how to join PACESHIP when the application is approved. Typically, applications will be reviewed within 2 weeks of the submission date but may take longer depending on the number of proposals submitted to the review committee.

Tips

  • Many department units have their own funding; check with your supervisor before applying as a team (doesn’t necessarily apply for individual student project proposals).
  • In the application, we recommend writing specifically about addressing opportunities that would help you achieve education or research goals, and/or benefit Georgia Tech or other communities. Include information such as:
    • How is this particular opportunity aligned with your current studies, interests and/or job responsibilities?
    • How is this particular opportunity aligned with your future career aspirations?
    • What have you learned during your studies that has led you to seek further enrichment in a particular area?
    • What will Georgia Tech or other communities gain from your participation in this opportunity?
  • Pay attention to explaining your project clearly and avoid field-specific jargon.
